Glenn Danzig tuli tunnetuksi yhtyeestään Misfits (epäkelvot, epäsopivaset, sopimattomat), jonka hän hajotti 1983. Misfitsin katsotaan kehittäneen HorrorPunk -nimellä tunnetun tyylisuunna. Myös HardCorePunk on läheistä sukua yhtyeelle.

Seuraavaksi hän perusti Shamain yhtyeen, musiikki muuttui paljon synkemmäksi, mutta samalla syvällisemmäksi sanoituksiltaan. Musiikki muuttui sanoituksiltaan enemmän elämän kauhuja käsitteleväksi Misfitsin halpiskauhuelokuva ja sarjakuvakauhujutuista. Shamain oli paljon suositumpi kuin Misfits. Shamainin levyjä on nykyää todella vaikea saada. Glenn Danzig ei anna tehdä niistä uudelleen julkaisuja tietojeni mukaan.

1988 Glenn Danzig perusti omaa nimeään kantavan melko monenlaisia tyylisuuntia soittavan yhtyeen. Sanoitukset ovat edelleen varsin synkkiä. Ne käsittelevät elämän nurjaa puolta, kuolemaa, hyvän ja pahan kamppailua, jossa paha voittaa aina.
